Photoinduced charge transfer in semi-amphiphilic porphyrin-phthalocyanine mixed dimers

Abstract

Langmuir-Blodgett multilayers were formed by alternate deposition of semi-amphiphilic porphyrin-phthalocyanine heterodimers and fatty acids. The optical and photophysical properties of these dimers were investigated and compared to the liquid phase data. Selective excitation of the porphyrin moiety led to the formation of long lived radical ions in the solid state, while excitation transfer to the phthalocyanine moiety occured in the liquid phase. The difference is attributed to the local high polarity experienced by the dimer in the layer.
